"Fall is all about sensuality" Monique Lhuillier said about her show, explaining the dark, sultry tones of her newest collection for the fall of 2011. She included many high end and rich fabrics like silk organza, chiffon, lace, sequin and ostrich feathers on her 22 pieces. Noticeably she employed lace to showcase or conceal parts of the body. Lace is one tricky fabric, if you don't do it tastefully it looks outdated and matronly, in this case we like her take on lace. Innocent yet sensual and modern. She also played with textures and prints. She kept everything minimal and chic. From ready to wear to short cocktail frocks to long romantic evening silhouettes. She went on adding very Victorian pieces but modernized to girlie accents. And these evening gowns??? To die for! She kept everything clean and classic but added a little naughty accents to some pieces like the bondage detail: lacquer braided belts looped on or around the bodice that formed a crisscross halter on a timeless black evening gown.
That's what were all about, easy and modern clothes. Colors were almost absent on the runway for this fall, instead she brought the warm tones of autumn into play. Warm beige, ruby reds, the classic black, gold and the almost forgotten grey. All of these colors evoke a very elegant and modern take on drab fall winter clothes. A very fun way to spice our cold weather.
The make-up and hair were a very big part of this whole look. They go hand in hand. Hair was kept up and away from the face and shoulders. A classic take on a very evening-like due. The make-up was simple yet warrior like. These models looked like women from a future World War Nine. Super simple colors, just placed differently. Two colors across the lid and an extended winged crease. A more modern smoky eye. Nothing clean looking. Not too pretty, that the was the point. Warm colors were used, like warm berries, warm chocolates and smoky blacks. Barely there cheeks with bronze peaches. The skin was kept very perfected, almost a velvety finish. And the lips were a very, very natural, almost there own natural lip color. but a hydrated and glossy lip. And these kind of looks were are seeing all over the runways in New York.
